Literature Text

One thing I noticed about the third season was that it didn’t have many songs in it. In fact, this list has the majority of this season’s songs. I guess Daniel Ingram was busy with other projects. But I just want to mention that the ones at the top of the list were some of the show’s best, so I guess this is a case of quality over quantity. For the list, I will talk about the song itself and everything that goes on during it. Also, how much I liked the episode does not affect how much I liked the song.

10) Breathless
This song was sung by the Soul Patches, a fictional band from the show. While it was a good song, I’m not really into boy bands, so I couldn’t get into it. The visuals mainly revolved around everybody getting ready for Pet Fest, nothing too spectacular. Overall, it was a decent montage song, but not my cup of tea.

9) Treasure Out of Trash
I briefly covered this song in a previous article. This was sung by the one shot character LeMasque. I’m usually grossed out by garbage, but the trash here is not presented as gross and well used in creating new things that it didn’t bother me.  And as I stated before, it seems like filler, yet it ends up playing an important part of the episode. It just goes to show you that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

8) A Different Kind of Girl
Unlike the others on the list, this song was performed by a character on the show, but singer AJ Woodworth. What makes it work is the montage of Blythe redecorating her room. It really speaks the same idea Blythe has of trying out something new. The song itself is well done and worth a listen, but I find it works best with the animation.

7) Chase Away the Winter Blues
This is one of the first songs to feature Blythe and pets together. The song’s theme is simple, Blythe wants to cheer the pets up. And even if it was just a fantasy, she does end up helping them during it. It’s a fun song that has a feel-good style to it.

6) Biskit Family Business
Fisher Biskit makes his singing debut in this interesting villain song. It tends to focus on the Biskit’s making an over-the-top evil business empire and does so in a way that is still enjoyable. I also found that the song kind of resembles the MLP song Bats, both of which were written by Daniel Ingram. And to address the issue with Fisher Biskit; I think he’s either bipolar or has a split personality syndrome.

5) A Skunk is a Skunk
This is a nice duet between Pepper and guest pet Mitsy. It’s mainly a character driven song as both Pepper and the audience learn more about who Mitsy is. We also see Pepper change her attitude about Mitsy during it. It also has a nice, emotional, bluesy-country style tone. It also gets points for helping to further the episode.

4) Hanging by a Thread
I’m a sucker for a good hard rock song and this one fits the bill. The song and the visuals all revolve around Sunil and Vinnie’s “Weekend at Bernie’s” style scam and the antics of the two pets are fun to watch. While it could be considered filler, it is still entertaining.

3) If I Could Talk to the Humans
This song has an opera tone to it and that really helps set the emotion to it. The visuals also let us see and get confirmation on some the pets’ owners. The lyrics also show how the pets would interact with others if they could talk to people. It’s a simple song, but very effective.

2) Pets and Humans
This has to be the most unique song because it ends up being two songs in one. The first part is the Soul Patches singing about their pets; and the second part is Zoe and guest pet Heidi singing about their owners. The two songs blend well together and the bond between pet and person is strongly shown throughout the song. If you have or ever had a pet, this song should speak to you.

1) My Biggest Secret
My Biggest Secret has to be the most emotional song of the season. This one is about Blythe’s friendship with Youngmee and whether or not she should reveal that she can talk to pets to her best friend. The visuals do a good job showing Blythe and Youngmee’s friendship and it gets even better when the pets accept Youngmee in the fantasy spot. It also helps convey the emotional problems Blythe has throughout the episode. A lot of people will probably disagree, but I think that My Biggest Secret is the best song of season three.

I hope you enjoyed my thoughts on the songs of LPS season three and be sure to catch my Top Eleven season three episodes.
